A Sunset (Day 10 Of NaPoWriMo)

The sky was a jewel

Something lustrously different

Than ruby or opal.

Tonight was a new

Color scheme

A crayon box addition.

The dome made pupils

Burn

Like wildfire.

It was no field of wildflower.

No one could glare upon the heavens.

Something furiously

Blazing in fury.

New York skyscrapers closed their curtains

For the night.

Lights flickering to sleep.

A thunderstorm lightning show

It was best to stay away

All windows deserted

Front doors bolted.

Brewing in the distance

We were in the path of its wrath.

Bitter like black caffeine

Hot and steaming,

Never cooling.

The sky wasn’t on our sides

Tonight.
