Azaleas: A Poem

Apologies
Like azaleas –
Striking the heart
In bold beams, then
All meaning and color
From your words
Is lost.
Petals fallen,
Broom bristles brush
Them from sidewalks
Like fingers across
Wet eyes –
Removing the memory
Of extra stolen glances.

Apologies
Like azaleas.
