Snowflakes: A Poem

A breathing skyEncased in snowLike a ribcage andA humming heart. A happy componentSeen in snowflakeReflections,FragmentedIn the perfumesAnd moons ofEveryday. Horizons and valleysIced in white,And you are seenRibboned in the picturesque moment,And felt in the stillnessOf frozenChaos. Where in snowflakes,I used to see myself Only. A new winterAnd things areDifferentNow.

Earmuffs: A Poem

The world,Hilltop and street cornerEncased in gray wrappingAs snow whizzes,Dressing big blue mailboxesAnd street lamps. A glacial wind,Tangles the hairOf sidewalk wanderersAnd nighttime gypsies. Winter draftsPrick our earsAnd curl around the skinWe try to hide. Whispering whirlwindsHoller the namesWe wish to never hear again,So we put on earmuffs.

A January Poem: Igloos

Ice and snow, tinseled terrain illuminates.Gray boots borrow knots of snow, flurries stuffed between the tangled patterns of the sole.Lonely igloo, frozen bricks staggered in a pallid fresco.Out, open, a peeking entrywayOrange light trickles as a fire flickers, and wanderers approach.Stamped footprints leave behind the printed journey, like a silkscreen or icy talisman.

Their high top Converse sneakers thwacked against the sidewalk like the rubber soles did everyday; morning and afternoon, to and from school. The sky's largest star launched rays downward as Violet's sigh trailed into autumn's open air. The beech tree on … Continue reading The Night The Constellations Extinguished: A Short Story
